Meeting is held to discuss the recent Citizens for Boston Public Schools report.

May 23, 1963

The meeting is held at Freedom House. Although the entire school committee was invited, only Louise Day Hicks attends. According to Anthony Lukas, she declares that she “‘understood and sympathized’ with the black parents grievances and would do what she could to alleviate them.” However, Hicks subsequently becomes the leader of the opposition to desegregation of the Boston public schools.
